Frequently Asked Questions

Telehealth therapy in Maryland for trauma, reproductive mental health, parents, and helping professionals to heal, find wholeness, and thrive.

How often and how long are sessions?

Sessions are typically 55 minutes in length and are held once a week for the first month of services. Once you are seeing improvements, typically after 1-3 months of weekly therapy, the frequency of meetings are re-evaluated and may move to bi-weekly or once monthly sessions.

The length of the therapy process varies depending on your needs. Many clients feel some relief and a renewed sense of hope within the first four sessions, a gradual lifting of symptoms within the first few months, and sustained improvement thereafter.

The length of your therapy journey is up to you. Many clients choose long-term therapy for months or years of work together to achieve deeper layers of relational and trauma healing, shift long-standing patterns and dynamics, feel supported through significant identity and life changes or loss, and maintain mental health while navigating the busy pace of modern life.

What will our first session look like?

The goal will be for you to feel comfortable, respected, heard, and understood. We will explore more about what brings you to seek services, what you would like to be different, and gather some life history and current life circumstances. Together we will create goals and a plan to guide us toward the outcome you are seeking. I will share some of therapeutic approaches and determine what intervention and support will be most helpful in your individual situation.

What do I need for telehealth therapy?

You will need a computer, tablet, or smartphone, internet connection, webcam, and microphone. Headsets or earbuds can help increase privacy. Choose a safe, private, comfortable, and quiet location in Maryland for your video session with access to a reliable internet connection or cell service that supports video meetings.

Should I use my insurance to pay for Mental Health Services?

This is a personal choice based on your current situation. Many people elect not to use their health care plans to cover of mental health services, and chose to pay for these independently. This is usually based concerns about the privacy of their protected health information, concerns regarding the insurance requirement to have a diagnosis in order to access services, and concerns with who this information may be shared with in the future through insurance companies and their affiliates. As a provider who is committed to offering accessible healthcare services, I accept insurance and understand that many people can not afford private pay therapy. I take care to put the minimum necessary information in your healthcare record for all my clients to protect your privacy.

What happens if I cannot make our scheduled appointment?

Appointments canceled 24 hours in advance are rescheduled at a more convenient time. Appointments canceled less than 24 hours in advance are charged a $100 late cancellation or missed appointment fee, which is waived at my discretion. I offer to waive the fee if I have an available appointment time and you are able to reschedule within the same week.

This fee will not be reimbursed by insurance. This policy is enacted in recognition that the practice incurs costs whether a session is held or not. Scheduled appointment time is protected time that is set aside for you and your investment in the therapeutic process. While it is expected that emergencies and other contingencies will arise that may conflict with scheduled session time, this time has still been set aside for you and can not be filled at the last minute. Please contact me as soon as you know the appointment will not occur as scheduled.
